Doctor Dinger
“Doctor Dinger”

The Pitcher
Pitches will be delivered to the batter via a pitching machine in an attempt to maintain consistency in the flight of the pitched ball.  One pitching machine will be used throughout the Dairy Queen

A Dinger
Any batted ball that hits in the air over the designated "Home Run Line" is considered a Dinger.

“Hit It Here!” Banners
Any participant, during the Championship round of the Dairy Queen
® Dinger Derby or Circuit Championship Game of the Ephrata Invitational Wiffle® Ball Tournament, that hits a Dinger off of the Dairy Queen® “Hit It Here!” banners located on the walls in the “power alleys” above the designated “Home Run Line” will receive a coupon for a free Blizzard courtesy of Dairy Queen® of Ephrata.

The DQ Qualifier Round
The Dairy Queen
® Qualifier Round for the Junior Circuit will begin at 7:00 pm on Friday evening on Field 3.  For one hour, participants can get an early feel for the Derby and set the pace for Saturday's competition, when a second Qualifier Round resumes at 4:00 pm on Field 2.  The Dairy Queen® Qualifier Round for the Senior Circuit will begin at 9:00 pm on Friday evening on Field 2.  On Saturday, the Rookie Circuit Qualifier Round will begin at 3:30 pm on Field 3.  The second Qualifier Round, on Saturday, will run for approximately one and half hours and is to be used for participants who did not enter on Friday night, or for those looking for a second chance.  The second round will close at approximately 5:30  and the participants from each circuit with the three highest Dinger totals (plus ties) will advance to the Dairy Queen® Survivor Round.

Each participant will be given ten outs.  An out is any swing attempt that does not result in a Dinger (home run) or two consecutive balls that land in the strike zone netting behind home plate.  Doctor Dinger will be the judge on all Dingers and outs.  There are no appeals.  Doctor Dinger is empowered to charge a participant with an out for arguing calls.  Doctor Dinger is also empowered to eliminate a participant from the competition at any time for any inappropriate conduct.  The total number of Dingers by each participant will be tallied during the Qualifying Round.

 The DQ Survivor Round
The participants from each circuit who have tied for the third highest Dinger total from each circuit will advance to the Dairy Queen
® Survivor Round based on the total number of Dingers hit during the DQ Qualifier Round. The same person may not qualify twice for the Survivor Round (i.e., if a participant enters more than once in the Qualifier round, his top score is used for qualifying purposes).  The DQ Survivor Round will begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday evening on Field 2.  The round will begin by resolving ties through a process known as “The Instant DQ”.   Each participant that ties for the 3rd spot will take one swing.  The first participant to hit an unanswered Dinger in The Instant DQ round will qualify for the DQ Championship Round.

After all ties have been resolved, the top three participants will then advance to the DQ Championship Round.

 The DQ Circuit Championship Round
At 8:00 pm on Saturday evening, the Dairy Queen
® Dinger Derby will host the Championship Round as one participant from each circuit will earn the right to be called a Dairy Queen® Dinger Duke.  Each participant in the Dairy Queen® Championship Round will receive another ten outs (they will hit according to seeding, with the participant hitting the most Dingers in the DQ Survivor Round hitting last).  The participant with the most Dingers in a circuit will be crowned a Dairy Queen® Dinger Duke and will receive a coupon for a free Blizzard courtesy of Dairy Queen® of Ephrata.

The DQ Dinger King
The Duke that has totaled the most Dingers during the Championship Round of all three circuits will be crowned the overall DQ Dinger King.  The Dairy Queen® Dinger King will receive another coupon for a free Blizzard from Dairy Queen® of Ephrata.
