The Pedestrians Walk Away with Indoor War
Senior Circuit Title
Throwin’ Smoke and White
Out Claim Championships
The dust has settled, the results are in,
and all the bat tape and candy wrappers have been swept
from the floor. The Ephrata Invitational Wiffle Ball
Tournament has once again come and gone leaving a
record-shattering 39 teams and spectators with a weekend
full of memories; however for a select few, those memories
are extra special; etched into name plates on their
trophies as champions of their respective divisions. For
the Ephrata high school baseball program and the Ephrata
Baseball Association, the 17th edition of the
tournament was special for other reasons. “The
annual fundraiser was the biggest success in the tourney's
17-year history. Not only did we surpass our team
participation total; we shattered records in attendance,
concession sales, and merchandise sales, making this
year's event the most successful fundraiser ever,”
remarked Mounts head coach Adrian Shelley. “The turnout,
and the volunteer effort turned in by so many selfless
individuals, never ceases to amaze me. We are genuinely
appreciative of the collective effort from the baseball
community.”
Senior
Circuit Recap
Onto recapping the action, as The Pedestrians claimed the
coveted prize of champions of the Senior Circuit (high
school division) by upsetting last year’s champs The
Redbirds by a score of 4-0. The Redbirds had sent The
Pedestrians into the non-winner’s bracket earlier in the
afternoon; however, The Pedestrians would eventually
avenge their only loss when the two teams faced each other
again in the championship game. This time, with a title
on the line, The Pedestrians’ Chris Fassnacht provided
instant excitement via the grand slam, poking a fastball
out of the park in the bottom of the first inning. That
one swing of the bat would prove the difference as a
combination of pitchers shut down the Redbirds to seal the
victory. Pedestrians’ ace Jordan Eberly was named the
circuit’s Cy Young Award, while teammate Dusten Rutt
earned the Senior Circuit Most Valuable Player Award.
Junior Circuit Recap
In the Junior Circuit (middle school division), a repeat
performance in the title game handed Throwin’ Smoke their
second consecutive championship winning, once again, 1-0
over their opponent. This time, it was Tate-n-Tots who
fell victim to Smoke, getting blanked in the finale.
Logan Rutt earned MVP honors, while teammate Blake Reiff
was named Cy Young.
Rookie
Circuit Recap
Finally, in the Rookie Circuit (elementary
division), the all-Ephrata team of White Out ruled the day
defeating the Backyard Boys from Lititz 7-1 in the
championship game. Ashton Sensenig was crowned Most
Valuable Player, while teammate Zach Lefever was named Cy
Young for his pitching heroics. |
